“Chad President Idris Déby who died of the wounds he suffered from clashes with rebels on the front line in the country's north was 68 years old and a friend of mine and of Kosovo. Chad's president, Idris Deby, was killed at the weekend during the government forces' clashes with the rebels, this country's army announced on Tuesday.
A day earlier, the preliminary results of the 11 April elections predicted Deby would win the sixth term in the office.
Deby, 68, was one of the African leaders for most years in office.
He took power during an armed uprising in 1990.
“Deby gave his last breath defending the sovereign nation on the battlefield”, an army general said as he announced his death.
Debbie has gone to the front line at the weekend to visit troops that fight with rebels located across the border in Libya.
