A Japanese woman whose lungs were badly damaged as a result of COVID-19 has accepted what doctors are calling the world's first lung transplant from a living donor to a patient recovering from coronary.

The Tokyo University Hospital in Japan has revealed that the woman has been subjected to an 11-hour operation Wednesday by a team of 30 of the best doctors.

The lung tissue donors for the woman were her husband and son, have reported from the hospital, writes CNN, broadcasts Koha.net. COVIED-19 is known to cause severe lung damage, and some people from around the world, including from the United States, have already accepted lung transplants as part of disease recovery.

However, Kyotto's Hospital has revealed that the Japanese woman's case is the first in the world where the transplant is made by living donors in a patient who has passed COVID-19.

Hiroshi Date, a doctor who has led the operation, said that this case gives patients who suffer from severe lung injuries as a result of the virus.

The wife's husband and son have offered part of their lungs donations to their wife, either their mother.

Transplant from living donors is seen as a better option, the Kyoto hospital has reported.
