The mistake occurred while imposing sanctions on Venezuela's crude oil, which is on the American authorities' blacklist.
In a case of the individual's misidentification, the owner of a restaurant, Alessandro Bazoni, found himself on the US Treasury's blacklist in January, but finally left her this week.
Legal experts say mistakes of this kind occur rarely and may be costly, the BBC writes.
In 2019, the administration of former President Trump imposed sanctions against the state oil company, “Petroletos de Venezuela”, as part of a strategy to force President Nicolas Maduro to resign.
On the last day in power in January of this year, the last US administration imposed sanctions on another Alessandro Bazoni on allegations that it is linked to a network trying to avoid sanctions against the Venezuelan oil sector.
The United States treasury also imposed sanctions on several related companies, prompting <x0viktim” to be the Italian restaurant.
The Treasury Department itself has admitted the error, which on its website officially reported this person's departure from the list of sanctions.
