Without state support of over 1 billion euros for the hotel and tourism sector, thousands of this sector's businesses are at risk of closing because of major losses as a result of the Devid-19 pandemic. So said Hysen Sogojevo chairman of the Kosovo Hotel and Tourism Oda (OHTK) during meeting with the Commission for Economics, Industry, Undertaking and Market.
He mentioned that as a result of the pandemic, 13 thousand businesses in this sector are at risk.
Sogojevo also said that the only option is to open these sectors and take state measures against those businesses, which do not respect measures to prevent the spread of Avid-19.
I am classified to open this sector and take measures against those who do not respect the measures. However, it is necessary that to save hotel sector and tourism businesses from closure, we need state intervention of over 1 billion euros, as the damages are now huge and more than a year from shut-down”, he said.
For this closure, Sogojevo has not ruled out the possibility of organising even protests if the government's closure of this sector continues.
Sogojevo has also called on this meeting to establish the National Tourism Agency, which, according to him, would help this development sector.
He said only 10,000 euros is the budget earmarked for tourism from the state.
Commission Chairman Ferat Shala and this member of the Commission raised their concern that if the population is not maintained until summer, and the tourism sector and gastronomy is not opened, it will push the diaspora away from coming to Kosovo this year.
