In the worst health crisis in decades, the republic needs a health minister, who is 100% capable. This, actually, is not me”, Anschober said, citing problems with blood pressure.
I got a very nice and challenging job 15 months ago. I don't think 15 months have passed, but 15 years”, he said in a statement to the media.
Anschober took office in January 2020, before the pandemic hit Austria.
Anschober, former journalist, 60, is one of Austria's most popular politicians, known for his long explanations of the challenges of pandemic.
It has often been a single voice in the government when it has called for stricter measures of impasse in the face of high levels of coronary infections.
Anschober said Tuesday that there has been no full day of vacation for more than a year that has damaged his health.
Austria, a country of 8.8 million people, has recorded over 58,000 cases of coronary and over 9,700 victims.
