The Egyptian famous Zahi Hawas has announced the discovery of the lost gold town “” near Lucsor on Thursday.
He said this was the largest ancient city, known as Athena, ever made in Egypt, writes BBC, translates Periscopi.
The findings were made within weeks after the excavations started in September 2020.
This city dates from the time of Amenhotep III, one of Egypt's most powerful Pharaohs, who ruled from 1391 to 1353 before the birth of Christ.
The city continued to be used by Pharaohs Ay and Tutankham, whose intact tomb had been discovered in the Valley of Kings in 1922 by British archaeologist Howard Carter.
The discovery of this lost city is the second most important archaeological discovery since Tutankhamun's tomb,” said Betsy Brian.
She said that the city would provide a rare view of the life of ancient Egyptians at the time of its peak.
