Embassy in Jerusalem: Palestine urges Islamic states to recognise Kosovo

Palestine has asked member states of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation to sever diplomatic relations with Kosovo due to the deployment of the Kosovo Embassy in Jerusalem.

According to Novosti reports, the request was made by Palestine Foreign Affairs Minister Riyadh al-Malki in a letter sent to the organisation's Secretary General

Al-Maliki has reportedly told them that Kosovo has violated international law and resolutions with its decision, but is also openly attacking the Palestinian people and their rights.

If members of the organisation accepted the Palestinian requirement, Pristina would face a major loss of support, because Kosovo's independence was recognised by 30 of the 57 countries in this organisation.

Kosovo has established diplomatic relations with Israel on 1 February and established embassy in Jerusalem. The organisation condemned him on February 3rd because, reportedly, it would violate UN Security Council Resolution 478.

Palestinian Ambassador to Serbia Mohammed Nabhan recently stated that the act of opening the Kosovo Embassy in Jerusalem is a violation of the principles of Arab and Islamic countries, which believe Jerusalem is an occupied city confirmed by numerous UN resolutions, and that Resolution 478 prevents states from moving or opening embassies in Jerusalem, Novosti writes.

He declared that Turkey also opposes such an act and asked: How much is it worth knowing a land and losing faith more than sixty?

All members who have an attitude similar to the organisation will have a negative view of this act. Therefore, the whole world will view it negatively because it conflicts with international law and certainly does not give Pristina a transit visa at UN”, Ambassador Nabhan said, urging Serbia not to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
