The elderly showed similar reaction to the first dose of AstraZeneca and Pfizer

The first direct comparison study of immune reactions between Pfizer and Astra Zeneca vaccines found strong and generally similar answers to antibodies in over 80 years after a first dose of both, scientists said. The study done in the United Kingdom also revealed that a critical component of the immune system, known as T cells, showed a broader response in those who received the AstraZeneca vaccine than in those who took it from Pfizer.
Scientists behind the study, which examined blood samples of 165 people in Britain between 80 and 99 who were given the first dose of COVID-19, said the find deserved a further investigation.
As antibodies can block the body's ability to enter human cells, T cells act as broader defenses by attacking and killing any cell that has been infected with the virus.
“These vaccines are equivalent and effective in promoting antibodies in most people (in this study), even after a doze”, said Paul Moss, professor of hematology at Britain's Birmingham University, who co-led research.
The two vaccines are good” he said at a conference regarding these findings.
The study was published online as preliminary before being revised by colleagues. He found that the main antibodies were present and at similar levels at 93% of the 76 participants in the study who received doses of the single Pfizer COVIID-19 and 87% of the participants who received vaccine Astra Zeneca.
