Prince Philip was born into a Greek and Danish royal family. He was born in Greece, but his family was forced to flee into exile when he was just a baby. After being educated in France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, he joined the British Royal Navy in 1939 at the age of 18.
Since July 1939, he began writing letters of thirteen years, Princess Elizabeth, whom he had first met in 1934.
During World War II, he served and distinguished himself in the Pacific and Mediterranean fleets, writes Periscope.
After the war, Philip was granted permission from George VI to marry Elizabeth. Before he got married in July 1947, he abandoned his Greek and Danish titles and became a citizen of Britain.
He married Elizabeth in 1947.
The prince had four children with Elizabeth: Charles [has visited Kosovo a few years ago], Anna, Andrew and Edward.
