Chief Prosecutor with Police Director gives their pledge regarding the media

Alexander Lumez and Samedin Mehmeti have pledged that they will defend the principles of press freedom and that will fully respect the Law on Protection of Journalism Resources that protect sources of information as well.

In the communiqué sent to the media during today, the prosecution has indicated that it has asked prosecutors to avoid investigating journalists.

The referral also reminds prosecutors that, by law, journalists cannot be prosecuted in cases when they exploit the right to silence regarding their information sources. Moreover, the chief state prosecutor has asked all prosecutors to report before taking any investigative action against journalists or media professionals”, the communique says.

“The chief state prosecutor and Police Director General assure the public and the media that protection of journalists' rights and other media professionals is of the highest importance for both institutions and pledge to take immediate action against anyone who does not adhere to these principles”, the Prosecutor's Community concludes.
