Former DP President Fatos Hoxha has reacted in despair after the current outcome of the 25 April elections.
He has brought about a status made after the elections four years ago, saying nothing has changed and with Lulzim Basha chairman, The DP is on a road to no return”.
We remember that the SP appears to be able to win another mandate in government, as it is actively leading.
Hoxha's Reaction
And when I asked for comfort and hope for yesterday's outcome, I saw this status made just four years ago.
It didn't comfort me, it didn't give me hope...
Status of four years ago:
Two weeks ago, as I followed with pain and concern developments in and around the tent, I warned that Mayor Basha, with his enigmatic and unreasonable behaviour, was leading the DP towards the road without return, towards self-responsion from elections, exit from the democratic system and self-destruction. As a Democrat exempted from active commitment, I insisted that the Democrats still unchallenged raise their voices at forums and seek accounts, appealing to accountability and reason, return to the system and protect the values that unite us.
Unfortunately, my desperate call was accompanied by the deep and guilty silence of leadership. DP leaders left the DP's self-exploitation from the elections to take place as the party's president refused and closed every street and space for compromise.
Today the DP has entered the road without a return. In the bow of 45 days DP will see itself outside the system, it will not take part in the elections, it will not be represented in parliament, neither will it be majority nor opposition, there will be no more voice in the policy chapter. Due to self-recognition, the DP risks being left without public financing headquarters, without representation in independent institutions and the CEC, without election and non-counterary commissioners, without media space and without legal guarantees. It's just gonna be out of things, out of the process.
Mayor Basha promised to postpone the elections, promised the overthrow of the Rama government, promised the technical government, promised radical electoral reform, with supreme guarantees for the free vote, promised powerful Euro-Atlantic support and disappointed us.
Mayor Basha was so sure on his way that “executed” consciously every deadline and procedure for the election registration. The DP chairman left no alternative, no reserve options on his feet. So today the DP is on the brink of a cliff, on the threshold of no return.
If the DP leadership doesn't worry about this nightmare, then the only hope remains the true Democrats. So they need to call the need. Find ways to save the DP and its opposition spirit, maintain the battlefield, give voice and strength to the opposition, with any means and means that the law allows and the need to save democracy.
