The chief of the Parliamentary Group of MPs of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Abelard Tahiri, has spoken before the media following the Assembly of Parliamentary Headship and has sharply criticised the majority.
He's called today's Headquarters meeting that he sees connected to last night's developments.
Tahiri said the constitutional deadlines for electing the president are not valid in this case, as the president is a task leader.
“Today, we were invited to the Assembly of the Parliament's Headship, an extremely strange meeting, and was invited without a clear agenda. A meeting that was actually connected to last night's session where I tried to smuggle the election law. The chairman of the Parliament and representatives of the majority tried to reason with the constitutional deadlines, and we showed him that these deadlines are not worth it.”, Tahiri said.
Furthermore, he said the purpose of this meeting was to accommodate their people in high state positions, and also said the majority is trying to drown democracy.
And we asked this irresponsible majority that we're asking for effective governance, to deal with the problems of citizens, with pandemic, economic development, justice and security, they have their minds on their system in high state positions, and that's the purpose of this meeting. Even the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo clearly says that the president is elected at the solemn session, while today he is trying to be elected shamefully. This majority is proving that it is trying to kill democracy, but we are the guardians of democracy.” said Tahiri.
He also said that if the country goes to the polls, Vetevendosje is to blame.
We sought to withdraw these two candidacys, we are within the constitutional deadlines and we can do this tomorrow, morning and next week and have sought to find a figure that is not divisive but reflects the unity of Kosovo citizens. This will of the majority does not exist. The bill that looks like it can take to elections, has Vetevendosje.”, Tahiri said.
