In mid-March 2011, pro-democracy protests turned into a conflict that killed hundreds of thousands of people and forced the shift of millions more.
I want to appeal again to all sides to end this 10-year conflict so that the Syrian people have a hint of hope to return to normal. Syria has seen all kinds of violence, and the Syrian people have suffered a lot, especially the vulnerable category such as children, women and older people”, Papa Francescu said.
The Holy Father, who returned Monday from a three-day visit to Iraq, also called on the international community to focus on halting fighting and to help rebuild a state where the economy is already in ruins.
