The challenge remains to protect the rights of consumers in the country, who face security in food, discount fraud and the swelling of prices, especially in the pandemic of basic products and pharmaceuticals.
During 2020 alone, consumer complaints at the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) have increased by 100 per cent, with half of them of a thousand and 17 Sosh not being addressed by the respective institutions.
So said today at the table organised by the Institute for Development Policy (INDEP) at the Conference on Protection of Consumer Rights in Kosovo on the subject “Consumer Protection During Pandemia”
On International Consumer Day, Dardan Abazi of INDEP said that, to our bad fortune, political-makers and relevant institutions still leave consumer rights behind, especially at the time of the pandemic.
We are receiving complaints every day regarding consumer rights, connected with discounts, with online purchases, food safety and other concerns”, he said.
While Helen Leurent representative from “Customer International”, who was injected from Switzerland to this table on the zoo platform, raised the issue of plastic pollution
Our concern for plastic pollution, the use of plastic for use. Replace them and reduce those plastic bags. 12 million tons of plastic ends up in the ocean every year. Businesses, producers should be aware of the need for consumers”, she said.
The head of the Department for Consumer Protection at MTI, Nijazi Shala, said this minister has pledged to improve consumer position through legislation in force.
The high number of complaints, as he said, were not addressed by institutions.
The number of complaints by consumers has risen by more than 100 percent. Their number is 1017 complaints during 2020, such as inflating pharmaceutical and basic prices, especially in the pandemic”, he said.
Food and Veterina Agency spokesman Lamir Thaci stressed that in the past period, they have been vigilant and, as he said, increased the volume of jobs at AUV and checkups for food products and implementation of anti-Condivus measures.
Thaci has also mentioned the number of complaints addressed and addressed by the Agency.
We've also received complaints from consumers, which have been carefully addressed. All that has been required by consumers to send evidence, because we face courts”, he said.
He has asked consumers to report any irregularities they face in food products.
