There have been a number of cases in Europe of blood clotting that develop after the vaccine is administered. But experts say the number of incidents coincides with the usually reported rate in the general population.

The European Bars Agency (EMA) will also hold a meeting today, where it is expected to make the decision on the continued use of Oxford-AstraZeeca on Thursday, A2 reports.

About 17 million people in the European Union and the United Kingdom have received a dose of the vaccine, with less than 40 cases of blood clotting reported since last week, AstraZeneca said.

Untested claims that there may be a link have led to 11 European countries suspending the use of the vaccine, including Germany, France, Italy and Spain.

Other countries, including Austria, have banned its use as a precautionary measure. While Belgium, Poland, the Czech Republic and Ukraine said they would continue to administer the AstraZeneca vaccine.
