Television correspondent Fox Nea, Chad Pergram, said that about 45 percent of the package was read by 21 p.m. as reading began about 15 and 30 minutes Thursday and could last ten hours.
The Senate cannot start the debate without the bill being read aloud. Pergram reported that senators may at times require that they leave the hall, but it may be possible for Senator Johnson or some other Senate member to file complaints.
The minority leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, on Wednesday criticised the package presented by President Biden's administration, saying it is a reaction outside any proportion to where the country is currently located.
This $1.9 trillion package is the same size as what we approved last April, right in the middle of the pandemic. This is not the same place as we had a year ago. Only 9 percent of this package is related to health care, and less than 1 percent is linked to vaccines”, said McConnell, member of the opposition Republican Party.
