The Kosovo Institute for Justice and the Kosovo Women's Group Network have reacted to the neglect that they claim the Founding Prosecutor in Pristina and the Kosovo Police in the Sebahate Sopi case. According to them, the latter have failed to fulfill legal obligations in cases in which women's integrity in criminal acts of domestic violence is violated.
Sebahate Sopi allegedly killed by her husband on March 14th. L.S.S. is also suspected that in Emshire district in Pristina, with firearms originally killed his wife and then killed himself.
At a media conference, IKD and ( The RKK, have published preliminary findings in the investigation into Sebahate Sopi's murder case: “The state with no action, it cuts off Sebahate Sopin”.
Ehat Miftarianaj of the IKD said that by constitution the right to life is essential and should be guaranteed by the state.
According to him, Kosovo was ready last year, as well as inspecting the Istanbul Convention.
“In concrete case, the Constitutional Prosecutor in Pristina has failed to exercise its competencies to offer protection to Sebahate Sopi. The Constitutional Prosecutor in Pristina yesterday an amateurly tried to flee responsibility and publicly lie that he has taken all steps for defence”, Miftaraj said.
Then, Miftaraj said that besides Sopi being a victim of her husband, the same was a victim of the state.
And, Adelain Berisha from the Kosovo Women's Network stressed that women for years are reporting violence, but that responsible institutions are refusing to offer support, resulting in the outcome of life with fatality.
The procedure will become more serious in implementing their work. We will demand the dismissal of prosecutors who are failing to implement their work”, it has added.
IKD researcher Shala added that the state prosecutor in yesterday's communiqué, trying to cover his guilt, has testified to the obvious negligence.
“based on the criminal code of domestic violence is defined as a criminal offense. And it's not relevant if the deceased has expressed readiness to continue the case. The Istanbul Convention is now applicable in Kosovo. Despite the case that this case was reported on March 3rd in Pristina, it has been all prediscretion for a risk of Sopi's” life, he stressed.
He has added that the responsible institutions have violated Sebahate Sopi's right to life. For that, he stressed, they require the prosecutorial system to urgently address the aspect of accountability and dismiss the chief prosecutor of the Constitutional Prosecutor in Pristina and the prosecutor of the case.
