This is the first time the communist state has launched a ballistic missile in a year and since Joe Biden was elected president.

The White House head said the United States would respond appropriately. According to resolutions by the UN Security Council North Korea, ballistic tests are banned.

In a statement issued Friday morning, the state news agency KCNA said the two missiles had reached the target at 600km on the eastern coast of North Korea, rejecting Japan's estimates that they had flown for only 400 kilometers.

As it says, the new missile is capable of carrying a load of 2.5 tons, which would enable it to maintain nuclear tests.

The development of this artillery system has great importance in empowering the country's military capacity and in coping with all military threats”, the senior official overseeing tests was quoted as saying.

Leader Kim Jong Un was not present. US President Joe Biden described the act as a violation of UN resolutions and said they were consulting partners and allies on the way they reacted.

If there is escalation, we will respond in a proper way, but we are prepared for diplomacy as well, it was Biden's words.
