Remittances from the diaspora in Kosovo have marked the record during the one-year period of pandemic.
During 2020 the diaspora sent close to 1 billion euros, half the state budget.
And in the month of May 2020, when the government made a decision on total closure, the largest income ever sent in a month, that is 104m euros, the TCH reports.
But, most remittances are believed to have gone into daily consumption of Kosovo families. The same is true of foreign investment, where the majority go to real estate and ultimately to the sectors that bring income and employment.
As a result, the Kosovo Central Bank has suggested that the government draft a plan that would enable the destination of foreign remittances and investments in the sector that will raise the heavily hit economy by pandemic.
