17 years ago, 3 children died after allegedly being chased by Serbs, a day later 12 Albanians were also killed.
17 years ago, the river's waves claimed the lives of three children in the village of Caber. The 13-year-old Fissel Florent Wessel's nine-year-old Egzon Deliu was thrown into the Iber River and no longer made it alive. But their jumping into the deep, cold, and heavy river was not random.
Victory Wessel, who was a friend of the victims and who managed to survive, had described this serious event for him. He had testified that the children had been persecuted by a group of young people in the Serb community.
They allegedly had a dog with them who was being driven toward the children. Fearful and feeling attacked, jumping into the river, the children saw the only option.
And 17 years later Zaim Deliu, who is the father of victim Egzon Deliu this day, remembers him as the worst day of his life. Deliu, the boy's stuff takes him through his picture that he always keeps close by.
But the Deliu family felt differently one day after the event took place.
Since his son is no longer living, the Deliu family have decided to restore him to their nephew's name.
The death of young people and the way the event took place was not well received by Kosovo Albanians throughout. Mitrovica citizens are now quietly crossing the Ibri Bridge.
But 17 years ago it was not.
The demonstrations were initially launched as peaceful, which were organised by white robes, high school professors “Frang Bardhi” in Mitrovica. But immediately Serb provocations from that side began.
Mars's riots began with insults, insults, and stones between the two ethnicities. Then, however, the situation overcame and the weapons began to be used. About 900 people remained injured.
The Main Family Medical Centre in Mitrovica had all turned into Emergency for persons who constantly came to seek help.
And this event is best remembered by the doctor, Vladnim Hoti. He shows that 12 Albanian people did not handle the wounds and moved on.
The event is still fresh in the eyes of KMDNJ chairman in Mitrovica Halit Barani. He shows that he himself was in protest, and this situation has been similar to war.
Many citizens in these demonstrations have sad memories. Demonstrations between two ethnicities the same day had begun in other Kosovo cities.
They lasted two days, and in this period Kosovo experienced widespread conflict between Albanians and Serbs extended throughout its territory. Events took place and developed rapidly and unexpectedly, but the marks remained forever.
