Vetevendosje Movement Chairman Albin Kurti has said the 1981 demonstrations were the starting point for the rights of Albanians seeking the status of the Republic for Kosovo.
After attending the event to honour the 40th anniversary of the demonstrations, Kurti said that her speciality was that students were organized and conscious as never before to seek freedom and constitutional equality like other peoples.
The March 11th “marks the 40th anniversary of powerful student demonstrations, which became popular in the face of which, apart from students, were the workers. At the time, students were organised by mensa, dormitories, the university for the rights of Albanians for the Constitution and Kosovo, so that it too is equal through the status of the Republic. The 1981 demonstrations, as well as any other group of demonstrations in Albanian history, are among the demonstrations of 1968 for the university and demonstrations of 1988-1989 against the collapse of autonomy. But the particular part of the 1981 demonstrations is that students were organised and conscious as never before and in this way in the name of Kosovo required not only freedom, but also constitutional equality with peoples and other republics”, he said.
Kosovo students on March 4th 1981 organised a protest in Pristina for better conditions at their union, and this protest was the spark of the demonstration organised by students on March 11th 1981. The entire population demonstrations of March and April marked the beginning of the crucial twist of the defined partition of Albanians captured by the former Yugoslavia.
