Despite difficulties inherited from the past, the Kosovo Energy Corporation is continuing to have important parts of it, continued investments in environmental improvement.
And this year is expected to be filled with the realisation of a large number of projects, through which the heavy image created for decades will be radically changed.
Environmental Project Management and Recultation Unit Director Rasim Veseli has said that in co-operation with the Government of Kosovo and with various donors, investments in environmental improvement will continue this year, which will return to the exploitation of residents.
He has made it known that in one of the many important projects KEK predicts to realise this year is converting the depot into the village of Balaj, which lies in a 90 hectares space in an attractive area both for citizens and for the production of pure energy from KEK.
“The overall area of these three areas where solar panels are thought to be installed is approximately 25 acres [25 ha], with which we think to generate a significant amount of electricity, without being based on coal or lignite, which we naturally do as KEK”, Veselin said.
The next project expected to be realised this year is the green generation in Obilic.
This project will enable the Obilic Community to plant trees, bicycle paths, and human walking.
Another project of importance is the final solution that will be given to the warehouse of the wasteland and the KEK-owned vasileva lake.
“With the Obilic Community, the Drenas municipality and the Ministry of Economy and Environment, so that we can see their development plans in that space. Even here is the idea of these surfaces valorating for KEK, as is the sweat in the Palaj. Because that big area is potential to create revenues. Depending on what the design solution for the lake will be, we will now see what the possibilities of seeing waveisation as wealth owned by KEK”, Wessel said further.
He has made it known that thanks to co-operation with the government and donors, 259 hectares of the Kosovo A Termocentreal ash depot have been achieved.
The depot will also be treated about 17 hectares in the framework of the first phase, while aimed to finalise it, to treat about 80 hectares of the desert's surface in the Dutch.
In co-operation with the Oblici municipality, it is working on training 20 hectares, which are located in front of the Kosova A Termocentrals entrance, where about 60% of the surface will be greened, while the rest will have different recreation and water pools.
A very important project is that it is launched with the European Commission for Decommission of three factories: nitrogen, gasification and heat, which span about 60 hectares.
The treatment of leftovers containing asthma and polychlonized biphenyl oils is also expected.
