The Infectious and Pulmology Clinic in Pristina are packed with patients after increasing coronary cases in Kosovo. Kosovo University Clinical Hospital Service officials (SHSKUK) tell Radio Free Europe that once again the possibility of breaking off emergency services in the SHSKUK hospitals is being considered.

Antigona Gashi's grandmother from Pristina has been treated at the Sport Medicine facility, within the USKKUK, following corruption infection. There's no room for new patients anymore at the Infectious Clinic.

Three days ago, we went to infection and they told us we should go to another clinic, because there was no room. We're here at Sports Medicine. I think there are good conditions for patients”, Gashi told Radio Free Europe on March 5th.

In the last seven days, Kosovo has recorded 3.557 cases of coronarys, and only 564 new cases have been recorded Friday.

USKKUK Director Valbon Krasniqi on March 5th declared for REL that in Pristina and seven regional hospitals are extended to 581 patients, who are affected by COVID-19. Of them, 35 people are in critical condition and are being treated in intensive service departments.

Krasniqi added that the situation with the pandemic, since last week, is being heavy and the sports medicine spaces are currently being used for hospital treatment of patients.

He said that in case of increased cases, opportunities will be seen to disrupt other emergency services in hospitals.

If this trend continues to increase the number of cases with COVIDD-19, we will have many difficulties such as hospitals, such as SHSKUK, to accept all patients who would eventually require hospital treatment. You know that Kosovo has not managed to have a special hospital for COVID-19. We've had beds that we have under normal conditions, no pandemics. Therefore, any increase in the number of cases requiring hospital treatment in a way conditions us to get another patient's bed”, Krasniqi said.

From regional hospitals, with mostly patients lying down is Prizren Hospital, where treatment is receiving about 100 patients, later that of Gjakova with 72 patients. 50 people are being treated at Peja Hospital, while at the hospital in Mitrovica, Vushtrria and Ferizaj have fewer patients being treated.

Krasniqi insisted on respecting measures to prevent the further spread of corruption.

Kosovo's incumbent Prime Minister, Avdullah Hoti, after a meeting he has had with the Minister of Health, the director of the National Public Health Institute and the USKKUK, has declared that the country faces a new wave of the COVID-19 pandemic explosion. He has demanded that measures be maintained in force and respected.

Health institutions are working intensively on capacity growth, drug insurance and increasing the number of medical personnel”, Hoti wrote on his Facebook profile.

As for the vaccine supply, Hoti has declared that “this month is expected to reach the first container of 33 thousand doses of COVAX” vaccine.

He added that Kosovo will benefit 100,000 and 800 doses of vaccine against COVID-19.

Kosovo continues to be the only country in the region still, which has failed to provide any kind of anti-commercial vaccine.

AstraZenecya and Oxford vaccine, Kosovo is expected to receive it for free through the World Health Organization programme, COVAX, which aims to distribute vaccines to poor countries.
