In the 10th anniversary of the start of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, which takes place in Brussels, the European Union has said this process has brought clear changes to citizens in Kosovo and the region.
But, European bloc spokesman Peter Stano, has said the time has now come for dialogue to be closed with a comprehensive deal.
He has recalled on Monday the visit of special representative for dialogue Miroslav Lajlak to the Balkan region last week to see how the parties view the dialogue and its continuation.
The five things you need to know about the Kosovo- Serbia
“The purpose of the dialogue was to bring the parties closer to the European future. So, for both Belgrade and Pristina, to have progress on their European path. The European route runs through dialogue” has said Stano, among other things.
In question about the Vetevendosje Movement leader Albin Kurti's statements about joining Kosovo with Albania, Stano has said that the EU “does not comment the statements of leaders through the media”, but has added that the EU's overall position is that he expects leaders to work by their personal example towards reconciliation and constructive spirit and trust in the region”.
He has thus also enabled the direct question of whether Kosovo's joining Albania is something the EU opposes.
“As we have said several times, the main goal of dialogue is to reach agreement on comprehensive normalisation of reports, acceptable to both sides, according to EU standards, and which would have a positive impact in the region”, the EU spokesman has declared.
