The U.S. Congress approved today the huge economic stimulus plan supported by President Joe Biden, a major 50-day success after his arrival at the White House.
Despite the republican opposition, denouncing excessive and poorly targeted spending, as well as a defect in their ranks, the Democrats, mostly in the House of Representatives, were able to approve it by 220 votes for and 211 against.
This support programme offers workers a “shans to pass”, Biden said in a statement sent by the White House.
“We are at a crucial turning point in our country's history”, said House of Representatives Democrat head Nancy Pelosi.
“We have a real opportunity to make the change”, she added, citing the message of President Biden for Americans : “Help is coming”.
Joe Biden is signing this $1.9 trillion plan on Friday. Pandemia has claimed more than 500,000 lives in the United States, and the world's largest economy contracted 3.5 percent in 2020, its worst year since World War II.
