The president of the United States, Joe Biden, said his country is looking at what it can do to free the 400-foot ship “Ever Given Given” from the impasse on the Suez Canal, as the water transport crisis entered on the fifth day.
“We have equipment and capacities that most states do not have and we are looking at what assistance we can offer”, the American president said on Friday. His comments came after an official said the sea forces are prepared to send a team of experts to erode the canal, but that he is waiting for the Egypt authorities' approval.
Meanwhile, efforts to displace the ship were suspended late Friday, while several water transport companies began shipping in a much longer voyage, around the south of Africa and across the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, to avoid the creation of even greater chaos in the canal.
The shipping company “Maersk” said 22 ships have been affected by the impasse of the Suez Canal and that two ships so far have been launched towards the Cape of Good Hope, on the southern tip of Africa, writes The Guardian, broadcast The Express.
Japanese ship owner Shoei Kisen Kaisha said the goal is for the ship to be opened on Saturday afternoon, but that it cannot guarantee that the efforts will be successfully completed by that time.
Blocking this very important water transport route has immediately negatively affected prices. The price of transporting fuel across the sea has nearly doubled.
