Austria announced today the launch of discussions with Russia to soon receive a million doses of Sputnik V vaccine, currently under consideration by the European regulator.
The strategy for negotiations launched on February 26th is to buy doses that will enable the vaccine of 500,000 people from April”, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said, Afp.
“If Austria gets a million doses of additional vaccines, we can return to normality sooner, save many lives and work”, he added.
Facing the slowness of vaccine within the European Union, Vienna, as well as Slovakia and the Czech Republic, has begun negotiating directly for the distribution of alternative stocks, in addition to those ordered by the European Commission.
“There should be no geopolitical purchaser. The only thing that should matter is whether the vaccine is effective and secure”, Kurz insisted.
Currently, Hungary is the only EU member to manage this vaccine, which has been approved in 57 countries according to the Russian Sovereign Fund (RDIF).
