This extension of the impasse, announced by Health Minister Greg Hunt, takes Australia's border closure period for the rest of the world to 15 months and prevents its citizens from leaving the country unless they have substantial reasons.
“The emergency period of human biosecurity”, set on March 17th 2020, is extending “to ensure that the Australian government takes all necessary measures to continue the prevention and control of Covid-19”, the minister said.
The extent of the impasse is based on medical and epidemiological advice provided by the Australian Health Protection Committee and the Federal Chief Chief of Medicine, he added.
The extension measure stipulates that the quarantine system at the hotel will continue at least half of the year, with the possibility of extending for the rest of 2021, Hunt said. /A2/
