Researchers at the Greekswald School Hospital in northern Germany said on Friday they had discovered the cause of the unusual blood clotting problems found in some vaccinated with the vaccine of Coronavirus AstraZeneca, public broadcaster Nordeuscher Rundfunk (NDR) reported.
The study showed how vaccine caused blood clotting in the brain in few patients. The discovery means that treatment to this problem can develop to prevent the consequences.
Success was the result of co-operation between the Greifswald Hospital, state health regulator Paul Ehrlic (PEI), as well as doctors from Austria, where a nurse died of strokes in the brain after being vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Treatment on the Trumpet
Researchers pointed out that medication would be possible only in patients with blood clots, not as preventative medication.
Information has been distributed to hospitals throughout Europe.
Germany, as well as several other EU member states, suspended the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine Monday following unusual blood clotting reports.
On Thursday, the European Drug Agency (EMA) said there is no proven link between the vaccine and blood clotting, based on the information they had. They also claimed that the benefits of the vaccine overcome any possible risks.
Germany decided to resume vaccines with the AstraZeneca vaccine Friday. Germany had injected over 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including the AstraZeneca vaccine.
