American professor and Balkan expert Alon Ben-Meir through a Facebook status has said that Kosovo benefits greatly from the full formation of diplomatic relations with Israel.
According to him, this is significant for both countries, but especially for Kosovo, writes the news.net.
“Establishing full diplomatic relations between Kosovo and Israel, symbolized with the opening of the Kosovo Embassy in Jerusalem, is very significant for both countries, but especially Kosovo.”, Ben-Mer says.
He writes away that this is a clear message to the international community, and especially for the five EU nations that oppose Kosovo's sovereignty.
According to him, formalising relations with Israel sends the message that Kosovo's legitimacy as an independent nation is increasing.
This recognition sends a clear message to the international community, especially to five EU nations that oppose its sovereignty that Kosovo's legitimacy as an independent nation is only increasing.”, he says.
According to Ben-Meir, the reality of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state will also be understood by these five countries, which can benefit from recognising Kosovo.
The “Hers or later they will manage to understand the reality of the situation and it will be entirely beneficial for such recognitions to come quickly.”, Ben-Meir says.
Kosovo has become the third country in the world to have placed its embassy in Jerusalem and has thus fully formalised mutual recognition and diplomatic relations with the state of Israel.
Major debate has been held on this issue in Kosovo, and the deployment of the Kosovo Embassy in Jerusalem has been rejected by Turkey, the European Union and the Arab League, which oppose Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
