American official: US AstraZeneca data under scrutiny by independent advisers

If the data is positive and everything goes well, the US Food and Bars Administration can complete its revisions and issue an authorisation of emergency use in about a month, adding an additional American arsenal vaccine, said Francis Collins, director of the National Institute of Health.
The AstraZeneca vaccine, developed with Oxford University, has been authorized for use in the European Union and in many countries, but not yet by US regulators.
Several EU countries have banned the management of the AstraZeneca vaccine after reports from Denmark and Norway on possible serious side effects, including blood bleeding and clotting.
Asked about those issues, Collins said he has not personally seen the data, but has been highly reassured “by European regulators' statements that problems can happen by chance and do not concern the vaccine.
An expert committee of the World Health Organization is currently looking into the matter.
