Authorities in the central part of Africa suspended the vaccination program until the results of the investigation into links between vaccine and blood clotting cases in some patients are released.
The Democratic Republic of Congo was scheduled to launch the vaccine campaign next Monday on March 15th, after accepting 1.7 million doses of the vaccine. However, after the suspension of the process, the new date has not been disclosed.
Congole Health Minister Etten Longondo stated: “as a precautionary measure, we decided to postpone the start date of the vaccine in the Democratic Republic of Congo”, writes The Guardian, broadcast The Express.
Denmark, Norway, Bulgaria, Iceland and Thailand have also suspended the use of this vaccine, as some individuals who vaccinated displayed signs of blood clotting. India also said on Saturday it would conduct a deeper research into the side effects of the vaccine.
However, the World Health Organization has said that no cause link has been found between the company's vaccine “AstraZeneca” and blood clots. The same has been said by British-Swedish manufacturer officials.
With this vaccine, which will be produced by the “Serum” in India, Kosovo is expected to be supplied, but it is not known when exactly the first doses will reach. These doses in Kosovo are expected to arrive as part of the COVAX programme.
