8 Mars behind bars, order women from Lipjan Correcting Center

8 Mars serves not only for the unity of women indiscriminately, religion, race, culture, language, and background but also to remember efforts to equality, peace, justice, and construction in nearly nine decades.

But this party is totally different at the Women's Correct Center in Lipjan.

For all 36 prisoners, Mars 8 has lost its meaning and it is pale from the day they were deprived of freedom.

“Burg is heavy. But after 20 years inside, it seems as if I was born and raised here”, I start telling one of the inmates.

M. For almost 21 years now, he's in Lipjan Prison convicted of doing “homicide”.

She and several other inmates share with Klansova.tv life within the prison and the marking of holidays in those ward space.

We're having a good time for the holidays because almost every party comes from outside with us visiting”.

The worst moment in life was when I received my sentence for 35 years, then my sentence is reduced to 24 years”.

After four years after the sentence is over, I don't know what I'm going to do, but I know I have to start life from zero”, says M.M.

S.I.E. has been convicted of murder for 16 years. There's a call for all women talking about living within four walls.

If I could just tell them all not to make their jobs come to prison, but living here is not bad. Conditions are good, with prisoners and staff we get along very well”.

We're usually having a good time together, we're preparing baklava cake. On our wife's day I expect us to have a good time, they usually come from the Ministry and bring us flowers”.

For B.V. convicted of the work “Murdering” Life behind bars was even heavier after leaving the 11-month-old girl outside.

The first week in prison was terrible for me, I left my 11-month-old kid out, and that wasn't easy at all.

Two or three times I've celebrated March 8, but not since I'm away from my daughter's mother and it doesn't make sense to me anymore. I wish all of them March 8 and beg all of the women who may be on the verge of committing some criminal offense to think well and not make the mistake I've made of”, she says.

This prisoner also had a request for incumbent Vjosa Osmani.

I was asked by President Vjosa Osmani to give thanks to women who have served 2/3 of their imprisonment. Not only men but women forgive you, at least here is equal to”.

In contrast, though, another prisoner feels that only good things without prison.

G. M has been in Lipjan Penal Prison for about four years “Misery and harassment”.

When I was outside, I was mainly a user of narcotics from 2002 to 2017. The prison institution has helped me and healed me, if I didn't come here maybe I wouldn't be alive, and that's why I think prison was a rehabilitation center for me and I just saw it from prison”

I have an 11-year-old girl who used visiting days for her, but getting back to prison is hard for me”.

I have now applied for parole and I hope that this time I will be approved because twice I am rejected. Once I'm out, I'm only gonna live for my daughter and I'm gonna create a beautiful life with her”

The social official for the treatment of prisoners, Selvije Berisha, indicated what state women come to at the Lipjan Correcting Centre and what steps they take as management.

We deal with the convicts from the first day they come to the institution until the day they are released. First, they come into a serious emotional and psychological state where we give them time to talk and counsel by offering them jobs and training where she finds herself”.

Berisha, among other things, indicated what is missing from prisoners in Lipjan.

The “convicted when serving 1212 of the sentence can become a user of home visits, but for this there must be good disciplinary behavior. They have seven days in a year and seven more days in extraordinary conditions that they can use”.

The director of this Straight Center, Heset Locku, told more about the possibilities women are being offered at this institution.

There are only 36 women currently in the Women's Correct Center in Lipjan, of whom 23 are convicted, while 13 are detained under this number we have two minors in custody and one with corrective-education measures”.

The possibilities for all women inside the prison are beautiful, where we offer professional training and training such as in the kitchen, tailoring, laundry and institution garden. This year we will also treat with an agricultural greenhouse that was built last year, and we hope that a considerable number of women will be engaged in jobs there at first for the institution's needs but depending on the amount of vegetables we can cultivate there can also be distributed to other corrective institutions”.

“One minor develops secondary schooling at the Correcting Centre for Youngs, while another now follows studies in the second year where both have shown great interest”, Locku said.

He reports that during the past year, the COVID-19 inmates in this facility worked on over 22 thousand protective masks.

“Robracetity is one of the most widely frequented activities in this institution, and during the past year, when the COVID-19 inmates have been declared with the work of masks that were first done as evidence then increased requirements have been added and eventually sewed over 22 thousand masks that have been distributed to all correct institutions in the Republic of Kosovo and other institutions that have been in need of<1>.

The lock, among other things, showed how the women's day will be held in prison.

Locke, like the detainees, expects from incumbent Vjosa Osmani to forgive more prisoners.

There have been no high numbers of pardons in Kosovo in general, but there are even cases where the sentence and women were forgiven a year ago, and we have the release panel on condition that there has been greater commitment to releasing some women on condition of”.

And yet, at any given party, convicts are hoping to forgive”.

“I hope they signed the request after the apology is made by request through the institution here or individually. I personally think that since the president is a female I should show myself in this direction to forgive women”, Locke said.

The incumbent, Vjosa Osmani, has not yet forgiven any prisoners, but the following days may do so.

Bekim Cupina, Vjosa Osman's advisor, confirmed that.

“U.d President Vjosa Osmani has not made a decision to forgive prisoners. The relevant Commission will meet in the near future for reviewing the demands for pardon”, Cupina said.

On the other hand, Kosovo Corresponding Service spokesman Florent Gashi has indicated that this year's apology request is under way, while in 2020, pleas for punishment have made 399 convicts where 15 of them have received forgiveness while three of them were female.
