Ecuador police confirmed that more than 50 prisoners have lost their lives as a result of the riots that broke out in three prisons in the country today.
According to reports from the daily El Comercio's website, the victims died in incidents recorded at Guayaquil's prison centres, El Turi and Cotopaxi.
Police stressed that they are managing the situation in prisons. Police officers are conducting operations to restore normality, while the military maintains the outside spaces of the facilities.
