Political analyst Acryri Cipa, through an editorial opinion on the media of The Brussels Times, has asked Greece to follow the same path as Israel, and to recognise Kosovo's independence.
Cipa, at his OP-EDʹin for Belgian media, says Kosovo's diplomatic recognition except that it would list Greece in a diplomatic line with the US, it would lead a strong message to the five EU nations that do not recognise it.
“Greece has the opportunity to contribute to the breaking of the current stalemate and injecting positive energy that can help facilitate conflict resolution. Such an action will certainly be welcomed by most Western countries, as well as EU institutions”, he argues, as he talks about Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
The expert on issues has said that unlike other countries that do not recognise Kosovo, Greece has diplomatic institutions in the current state.
“Unlike other non-recognising EU states, Greece has a liaison office in Kosovo, at the ambassador level, and has stressed it seeks to strengthen economic relations. Foreign Minister Nikos Dendia's visit to Kosovo last October focused on the region's EU perspective and dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia” is further argued.
“Establishing Kosovo-Israel ties set an important precedent. Athens would act wisely if it received lessons from”, it concludes.
