Kurti has said that Kosovo's orientation has always been towards the West.
Although such a statement did not hold out as far as the Kurti1 government was at the time, I accept about a thousand tests for the Cavid19 virus from Serbia.
Question: Your last term as prime minister ended during the COVID-19 pandemic. What is the first thing you will do as prime minister to fight pandemic in Kosovo?
Kurti: We plan to start adopting adequate funds for vaccination and a priority programme regarding social groups that need to be vaccinated first and by what order, and we plan to have 60 per cent of the population vaccinated this year, in co-operation with the EU. When I left office on June 3rd of last year, we had only 30 deaths and the number of healed people was three and a half times higher than active cases. Since I quit duty, we've had over 1500 deaths.
Question: Have you discussed accepting vaccines from Serbia, as has North Macedonia?
Kurti: We plan to discuss this issue with our partners, with countries that recognise us and in particular with the EU.
Question: Is this a no-to vaccine from Serbia?
Kurti: No, we will not receive vaccines from Serbia, which receives vaccines from Russia and China. For both values and interests, our orientation has always been toward the West.
Question: It can be seen as a way to build the bridge with Belgrade.
Kurti: We don't want to replace the EU and the US with any Eastern undemocratic powers, because there's been proved to be no certainty about quality, on the one hand, and there are always conditions in the form of geopolitical games.
