ZPS says it has adopted pro-active and rigorous approach to uncovering evidence so that the trial of Thaci and others can begin in September 2021.
“The ZPS has described, here and earlier, the pro-active and rigorous approach it adopted in the direction of the discovery of evidence, a way that will allow the trial to begin in September 2021”, says on this document, the Justice Vocation.
Furthermore, it is said that this demanding regime is being undertaken in interest in meeting the legal obligations of a fair and swift trial date.
According to them, the timetable described allows for many months of defence preparation and preliminary investigation into a clearly defined issue, while recognising the basic interests of victims and witnesses and justice, in reducing risks of interventions and threats in an extended pretrial period.
“Anyway, the defence has repeatedly tried to characterise the timetable as an attempt to undermine a fair trial, claiming the trial cannot begin for an 18-month minimum from the beginning of 2021, and possibly longer”, the SPS letter said.
While Thursday, the third conference on the progress of the court case to Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veselini, Rexhep Selimi, Jakup Krasniqi in The Hague, is expected to start at 11:00.
