On February 11th at The Hague, he called a meeting with all ambassadors of European states accredited in the Spanish diplomatic capital.
At the closed meeting, Special Court Chairman Ekaterina Trendafilova raised alarm for the fate of Specialised Chambers and Kosovo's Specialised Prosecutor's Office, but with headquarters in the Dutch state.
When proceedings have begun following confirmation of war crimes charges and crimes against humanity against former KLA leaders, Trendafilova says the Special is facing war coming from Kosovo to undermine the work of this institution.
In the confidential reporting, part of which several European media were published, the Bulgarian judge said before the ambassadors that in the future there may be serious attempt to shift the Special Court to Pristina.
This will certainly endanger the lives and security of people who have or will be willing to cooperate with us. Such changes, of course, would have a shocking effect on witnesses who may no longer want to appear and thus make it impossible for the Specialised Prosecutor to proceed with his” cases.
Although it was reported that this reporting was unusual for The Hague chief judge, from her office said Ekaterina Trendafilova reporting is a normal working procedure.
There is no trace of information in this case. At an informational meeting for EU Mission Chiefs on the status of public procedures, which President Trendafilova regularly holds every two years, it has outlined issues that have already been addressed publicly. This is the routine practice that makes the courts located at The Hague”, said in her office's response to Klen Kosova.
Otherwise, Trendafilova at the informational meeting with European diplomats has called from the respective countries to make comprehensive co-operation agreements on the transfer of witnesses and their families to Europe.
Without such reconciliation, according to the Special Speaker, it will in some cases be impossible to give testimony freely and fearlessly.
