After the Queen's intervention, the government had put a clause in the law that guaranteed itself the power not to look at companies used “by heads of states” from new transparency measures.
The deal, which was forged in the 1970s, was used to create a chain of state corporations, thought to have put the secret share in the private wealth and investments of the queen, at least until 2011.
The true degree of its wealth was never discovered, although it is estimated to weigh hundreds of millions of pounds.
