The US Senate begins the trial Tuesday of former Republican President Donald Trump.
Trump is charged with the <x0-> inciting revolt” on January 6th.
That day, his supporters attacked the U.S. Congress building, trying to prevent the Certificate of Joe Biden's victory in the November 3rd presidential election.
Five people, including a cop, died in a riot.
According to a survey conducted by ABC News and the Ipso Research Center, most Americans - 56 percent - want the American Senate to condemn Trump and thus prevent him from leading any public office in the future.
However, the Senate's 50 Democrats will need votes from at least 17 republics to condemn the former president.
This result seems unlikely.
Many Republican senators have condemned Trump's actions over the unrest in Congress, but only a small part of them have shown willingness to condemn him.
Former American President Donald Trump.
The House of Representatives, controlled by the Democrats, voted for Trump's dismissal a few days before he completed the presidential mandate on January 20th.
According to the Democrats, a Trump speech on January 6th, as well as its baseless claims of election fraud have provoked the crowd to attack Congress.
Trump's lawyers, on the other hand, are expected to argue that his rhetoric, which casts doubt on the outcome of the elections, is freedom of expression, protected by the Constitution.
