The US Senate voted to advance the trial process against Donald Trump, rejecting the claim that the prosecution against him was unconstitutional.
At the historic hearing, senators heard the Democrats' accusations and eventually 56 Senate members voted in favour, and 44 against. The result shows that even the 6 republics voted with the Democrats.
Donald Trump is charged with the “Apex of the uprising”, of the events happening at Capitol Hill on January 6th, and thus becomes the first former American president to be tried in the Senate.
The Democrats hope to lift the right to hold a public post in the future.
A few hours before the trial began, Trump defence lawyers have named the decision “unconstitutional”, now that their client is no longer in charge.
