Demonstrations at the prestigious research university began about a month ago, after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appointed Melih Bulou, an academic and politician of Erdogan's party as the rector of this institution.
The protest students, who have joined several professors, said the appointment of the reactor was undemocratic, and had called on the government to allow them independence to select their own reactor.
The situation became more violent after protesters put an art work near the new Rector's office presenting the House, Mecca, and pictures of the LGBT rainbow. On Saturday four students were arrested and charged with “inciting hatred”.
