The United States imposed additional sanctions on a Russian ship and its owner for working on the construction of the <x0-Nord Stream 2” gas pipeline from Russia to Germany, but the move was immediately criticised by Republican Party lawmakers, who described it as inadequate. The announcement of these sanctions became known [...]
The announcement of these sanctions was disclosed in a report submitted by the State Department in Congress on Friday evening, writes Free Europe.
Two republican lawmakers immediately accused the US administration of failing to impose sanctions against additional subjects and demanded clarification of what the government is doing to oppose the construction of the new gas pipeline between Russia and Germany.
Republican Michael McCaul of Texas said that adding a new amount of sanctions on subjects that were previously sanctioned is completely inadequate and that it fails to meet the lawmakers' goal of cutting off gas construction.
Allowing this pipeline to conclude that building would be nothing less than a victory for Vladimir Putin”, Republican McCaul said.
A group of lawmakers from both US parties on Wednesday called on the government to inform Congress of the steps it has taken to counter the construction of the pipeline, which is believed to have already completed 90 percent.
