Police authorities have said it is one of the deadliest avalanches in the country.
Survivors were able to dig in snow to get out, and their situation after the event is unknown. They were able to get the other four out of the snow but dead.
The Utah Skiing Centre said the victims were skiers with known community experience. The headquarters had issued a warning before the avalanche occurred and called for caution because there was high danger.
