German Chancellor Angela Merkel has warned of a third wave of Covid-19 cases if Germany starts its reopening in the wrong way, CNN reports.
“We must proceed with wisdom and caution now that a third wave does not require a new complete closure throughout Germany”, Merkel said in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.
The Chancellor was declared against the country's opening very soon, as the British mutation, believed to be more transmitted than the original strain of the virus, is spreading to Germany.
Germany's Agency for Disease Control and Prevention, Robert Koch (RKI) Institute, also recorded 11,869 cases with Covid-19, in the last twenty-four hours in the country, bringing the total pandemic to 2,414,687.
The death toll in Germany by the Ovid 19 virus now stands at 69,125.
Incident rate remains the same as 61.7 cases per 100,000 residents, according to RKI. The goal is for the incident level to be reached at 35 per 100,000 in order to reopen the country, Merkel has said.
