The chairman of the Veteparation Movement, Albin Kurti, can avoid dialogue with Serbia, if it wants to take the lead in the new Government, jetai Krasniqi from the Kosovo Democratic Institute (KDI) has said.
According to Krasniqi, although Kurti has declared that dialogue has no priority and will focus on internal issues, there should be a balance between domestic and foreign policy.
“Kurti has declared that Kosovo- Serbia is not the number one priority of its government. At the moment the same is formed, he has been constantly speaking about Kosovo's internal affairs, saying that in fact his government will focus more on domestic issues that directly affect the lives of citizens. But we know that the question of dialogue is an issue that will come to the table of the coming government, so it will be an issue that will not be able to avoid the Kurti” Government.
According to her, Kurti has a different approach from other parties for dialogue, so it can be expected to have a reformation of this process.
We know Kurti-Vetevendosje has a different attitude than other parties about dialogue. What we can expect is that there is a tendency or a willingness of them to reshape this process on the basis of the method they see needs to move forward. So we may not expect the process to go in the same form or continue where Government Hoti remained, but what we need is that we have clear what we expect from this process, make it clear with our partners, the EU and the United States and know where we're going. We need long-term, well thought-out steps and no ad-hop steps we have to deal with. Kosovo- Serbia is here and will remain, is the key to opening European roads, so we will see how to protect our interest”, she has added.
In addition Krasniqi has confirmed that there is some kind of external pressure for the resumption of dialogue, and any neglect of Kosovo will present Serbia as the most constructive side.
The “It is true that pressure is being put on Kosovo or we can say that we have seen statements coming from the European Union, Lajcak asking the next government to have spoken the dialogue, but we have also heard statements of Serbia's President Vuqiq, who has said that he is not ready to have an agreement with Kosovo on the basis of mutual recognition, until next year in April 2022 where the presidential elections will be in Serbia<1>.
Therefore, according to Krasnqi, this period will be difficult to reach an agreement with the issue of mutual recognition, and this should actually serve for the parties to deploy and can build their positions and trust to reach the grand finale.
Serbia at any moment has wanted to use Kosovo as an unconstructive party and come out as if it were the constructive side. But if we see where the dialogue currently stands is what it has publicly declared is not ready for an agreement with mutual recognition with Kosovo until next year”, it has said.
Krasniqi has reiterated once again that Kosovo needs a implementation strategy to sit at the table with Serbia. / EO
