One thing is known, the next president of Kosovo will face Vuciqi. The question is, who can confront him?
Kosovo votes on February 14th for national elections, but as never before these elections are important even for the election of new president Kosovo, Supreme Commander of KSF, where two main candidacies are the leader of AAK of Ramush Haradinaj and Vjosa Osmani, former member of The LDK, now part of the coalition with Vetevendosje.
Haradinaj and Osmani are different political profiles. They have different beliefs and opinions about diplomacy.
Haradinaj comes to politics from the war, was the KLA's most famous general, while Osmani entered politics through a door that Fatmir Sejdiu had opened when he became president of Kosovo, taking him as adviser.
Ramush Haradinaj has the longest experience in politics. It was part of the Parliament. Kosovo for decades, twice Kosovo prime minister, part of international tables where weighty decisions for Kosovo have been made, while Osman is still untested in political battles. That political figure has raised it through strong clashes with power, mainly with former President Thaci.
Another reason why Haradinaj seeks the presidency is the security aspect. He is known as the commander of the Army, since in his mandate as Kosovo's prime minister, after a long diplomatic fight, the Kosovo Army was voted in the Assembly. He says that now is the time Army sent to NATO and professionalise and arm themselves.
Another argument Haradinaj's license has used in his favour is political balance. Seeing Kurt as Prime Minister, AAK thinks it would be unhealthy for democracy that The prime minister and president come from a political tax and have full power over institutions.
“A balance is necessary”, often reiterate Haradinaj.
Haradinaj has said he respects his counterCandidate, but says this time needs a president unlike its values.
“I have a longer, more loany record of confrontation with Serbia. It starts somewhere in '{0}'-4. Passing through freedom efforts, court processes, denial of plan Ban Ki-moon, down to the tax, the army of all these”, said Haradinaj in one of the latest interviews.
He has said that before Serbia it is creditable, and that time is just when Kosovo is expected to face Serbia for the final solution to the frozen conflict.
“I am able to face Serbia, with Vucicin”, Haradinaj says.
Even according to many analysts, Haradinaj's figure would be very powerful that Osman's report to Serbia, when it is known that critical processes await the country in the near future. According to them, Haradinaj is difficult to manipulate. “Vyosa as president could not be a good balancer on the political scene, because how much it was in The LDK went against its party, now very easily oriented by the new “chief””, analysts say.
