From Customs, they say there is a decrease in smuggling with goods. However, the most frequent cases, they say, are those where they try to smuggle into medical drugs and soft drinks.

Kosovo Customs spokesman Adriatic Stavileci says general revenues are higher than the previous year. According to him, the economy is starting to function, so consumption and import have increased.

Last “, period from January to half of February, we have had collected in 2020, 111m euros in Kosovo budgets. While, at the beginning of this year, it is a good start and we have reached 123m euros in total taxes we have collected. That means we're 11 percent more than last year”, Stavileci points out.

On the other hand, Stavileci says the pandemic has affected all economic spheres in Kosovo, which he adds there has been a reduction of attempted smuggling.

“Normically that we've always seized various cases during the attempt to smuggle, but in general we can say we've had a reduction in the number of cases we've caught during the smuggling attempt”, he adds.

During the interview, he points out that the most frequent cases of smuggling are of medical medicine and soft drinks.

The products that are most favoured for smuggling are products that are sold, transported in easier ways. Because we've seen examples of oil derivatives, but with market regulation this problem has been minimized and is almost disappearing. Now we have several cases of smuggling. We seize cases of gas smuggling coming from various states”, he ends up in kp.

Stevilec adds that in these cases, he tries to escape the excise tax. Customs' annual revenues in 2020 are 1 billion and 30m euros, or a 10 percent drop.
