He “affirmed the importance” that the US “costs universal human rights and rule of law”, the White House said.
Beden made this call after reading a future US report on the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
The report, due to be released soon, is expected to include the king's son, Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
However, the White House statement does not mention Khashogg's name.
The president highlighted as something positive the recent release of some Saudi-American activists and Loujain al-Hathloul from custody (which was released this month after nearly three years in custody) and confirmed the importance the US costs to universal human rights and rule of law”.
