According to KDI) the recent arrests have shown that Kosovo is mired in corruption. From KDI) they say this case has witnessed a lack of control over state funds.
“The arrest of 10 state officials for corruption and the obtaining of cash clearly speaks of the lack of control over state funds and the possibility of abuse by state officials for personal gain or other persons' profit”, KDIO'S response said.
Full announcement:
Kosovo's Democratic Institute estimates the fact that after a relatively long period of time when it seemed that the State Prosecutor was going through a long phase of lethargy, he today took action by booking many locations throughout Kosovo. According to official statements, the first findings from these raids are cash available worth more than 400,000 euros, found in the homes of persons involved in the case.
These arrests and the discovery of such a large amount of cash available to individuals testifies once again how deep Kosovo is in corruption and how organized criminal groups have unfortunately managed to penetrate the hyerarchy of state institutions.
Such cases are also a clear indication of why Kosovo in Transparency International's Global Corruption Perceptions Index is constantly losing points by falling below the global average and far from the European average in perception of corruption.
The arrest of 10 state officials for corruption and the obtaining of willing money clearly speak of the lack of control over state funds and the possibility of abuse by state officials for personal gain or other persons' benefits.
KDI wants the State Prosecutor to act in the short term towards collecting all evidence and the sooner the people involved are brought to justice. KDI also encourages citizens who have been victims of these abuses by officials who worked at the Agriculture Ministry, respectively, at the Agency for Agriculture Development, to report abuses or damages caused by the State Prosecutor or Police.
